Academic and Social Growth for ALL Students, Every Day!

My name is Mrs. Johnson, while it is easy to pronounce, you wouldn't believe the problems that come with having a VERY common name. I graduated from Miami University - twice! First, I graduated with my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and then with a Master's Degree in Elementary Math. I know you may be thinking, Math? That's another long story.

I have been with Southwest Local Schools for 33 years. I taught computer education classes at all six elementary schools for 11 years and taught fourth grade for 17 years at Harrison Elementary. In 2012, I finally graduated and moved to 5th grade! Where I have been happily teaching Reading and Language Arts for 4 years.  In 2008, I was honored to be selected as Harrison Elementary Teacher of the Year. I have also been included in Who's Who's in American Education. Those awards are nice, but the best reward is hearing from former students. I LOVE to read, I LOVE to teach reading, and I LOVE helping my students LOVE to learn too!

My husband and I have two children who are young adults and work full time. We have several four-legged "children" too: our dogs - Max and Harley, our cat - Tigger, and our horse -Johnny. No, I don't own a zoo!

Our family loves to travel. We have been to Chicago, Myrtle Beach, San Francisco, Seattle, Guatemala, and Australia. When I'm not off traveling, I enjoy reading, swimming, gardening and spending time with my family.

I look forward to working closely with both students and parents to make this an amazing year.

August 17th

The first day of school is AUGUST 17th!  Wow, that sure is early.  In fact it is the earliest Southwest Schools have started in 33 years at least.
Since it is highly likely the temperatures will be toasty, students may bring a water bottle.  I suggest they freeze 1/2 bottle the nigh before, add rest in morning, and then slide into a tube sock to help keep it cold.
Just a reminder, shorts need to be fingertip length and sandals must have heel strap (no flip flops).  Guys need to be sure not to wear tank style shirts or jerseys while girls need to stay away from spaghetti strap tops and dresses.  Shorts should be worn at waist and underclothing straps should not be showing.

Welcome Back!

It's hard to believe that school supplies are on sale in the stores and the new school year is just around the corner.  I am looking forward to meeting all of you on August 17th.  Enjoy the last few weeks of summer, I plan to :)
