Now that winter weather is quickly approaching, please be aware of SLSD’s school closing procedures. During winter months, school may be delayed or cancelled due to either snow accumulation or extreme cold. While there is no statewide formula to determine if classes will be cancelled, schools typically use the National Weather Service’s wind chill chart to help determine action (posted HERE on the district website). Southwest Local School District focuses on student safety when making the call and we know that parents are in a better position to secure care when given as much advance notice as possible.
In case of inclement weather, parents should listen to the radio for closing or delay information concerning “Southwest Local Schools” over all major radio stations and local television stations. Closings and delays will also be posted on the district website and social media. Please refrain from calling school or any school employee.
Parents and guardians will also be notified through our emergency notification system, with information shared through the channels you indicate: an automated phone call, text message or email. Mr. Morris sent a test of the notification system the afternoon of Friday, December 1; if you did not receive such notification, please contact your student’s school.
